Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 (as amended 1989 and 1993)

The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 1 (as amended in 1989 2 and 1993 3 ) set levels of fire resistance for domestic upholstered furniture, furnishings and other products containing upholstery. The majority of upholstered items (sofas, armchairs, beds etc) manufactured after 1988 will comply with the new standards. Check for labels confirming they comply with these regulations.
