We've been doing some research at Redbrick Properties and discovered that across the UK one fifth (21%) of all privately rented homes are occupied by families.
Furthermore, using DataLoft Rental Market Analysis of new tenancies since the start of 2020, 39% are occupied by single people and 40% by sharers or couples.
Here in Leeds we buck the trend slightly due to the high concentration of students feverishly searching for private houses to share with their mates, as well as young professionals relocating to Leeds to take advantage of the increasing flow of job opportunities one of the North's best city has to offer.
This is backed up by regional analysis highlighting the larger concentrations of families in the private rented sector in the South East and East of England compared to London, Yorkshire and the South West.
Sharers and couples comprise over 40% of renting households in the South while singles are the dominant household type outside of London, the South East and East of the country.
